The school’s special educational needs department helps children with all kinds of needs, whether they are educational, emotional, medical or behavioural. Once assessed on arrival at the school children are allocated help appropriate to their level of need following Isle of Wight and government guidelines with regard to the Code of Practice.
We believe that all teachers are teachers of special needs and they work closely with special educational needs support staff to help develop appropriate materials, assessment procedures and teaching styles.
The school’s special needs department is well supported by a range of services from outside agencies such as the Learning Support Service, Communication and Interaction Service, Outreach Tutorial Service, and specialists for hearing, visual and medical difficulties.
The school also has an on site special centre catering for pupils with Communication and Interaction Difficulties.
